Binani Zinc Limited, a fully owned subsidiary of Binani Industries Limited pioneered the manufacture of electrolytic zinc in India in 1967. The House of Binani in collaboration with Cominco Ltd, a Canadian Metals giant, set up this unit as a custom zinc smelter to produce high quality grades of zinc. Binani Zinc Ltd., based in Kochi, Kerala, has a turnover of approximately 400 crore (BZL annual report content has these figures) The present facilities have been installed in technical collaboration with leading-edge process experts like LURGI, Germany, UMICORE, Belgium and more. Moreover, in order to raise efficiency and productivity, the company has streamlined and de-bottlenecked systems and processes and has earned an ISO 14001:2004 certification from BVQI in addition to the SA 8000:2001, OHSAS 18001:2007 and ISO 9001-2001 BVQI certifications.

In efforts to minimize the environmental impact of zinc production, the solid waste residues are stored in secured landfills designed and built to exacting US EPA standards.
