Mumbai, May 03, 2010: Ghanshyam Binani Foundation, a non-profit, charitable organization of the Braj Binani Group today announced Baby Jahanavi and Master Gaurav Singh Saini as the winners of the prestigious 9th National Ghanshyam Binani Children’s Bravery Award. The foundation honoured Baby Jahanavi and Master Gaurav Singh Saini with a silver medal, a citation and cash rewards of Rs. 51,000/- each, at a glittering conference in Panaji today.
Ghanshyam Binani Bravery Award salutes Baby Jahanavi who at an age of 6 years displayed her courage by saving her 10 month old brother from a fire that engulfed 7 small dwellings in Andhra Pradesh. The male child recipient of the Award, Master Gaurav Singh Saini from Himachal Pradesh at the age of 13, showed selfless bravery by rescuing 60 people during a stampede at the Naina Devi Temple. This award is a small token of acknowledgement for the great courage displayed by Baby Jahanavi and Master Gaurav Singh Saini.
The Chief Guest, His Excellency, The Governor of Goa, Dr. S. S. Sidhu and Honorable Chief Minister Shri. Digambar Kamat were present at the ceremony, along with other panelists of the committee comprising Mr. Nana Chudasama, former Sheriff of Mumbai, Mr. Chandra Mohan, Industrialist, Smt. Padma Binani, Chairperson, Ghanshyam Binani Foundation and Dr.P.S. Pasricha, Ex-DGP and Chairperson of the Bravery Award Committee who were present at the conference to congratulate the winners.
The Honorable Chief Minister of Goa, Shri. Digambar Kamat awarded the recipients and congratulated the young brave hearts for their exemplary display of courage at this splendid occasion.
Dr.P.S.Pasricha, Ex-DGP and Chairperson of the Bravery Award Committee added, “The Ghanshyam Binani Foundation institutes an annual national bravery award for children below 16 years of age. This award was introduced in the memory of Late Ghanshyam Binani who loved children unconditionally. Over the last nine years, Binani has taken the right step towards recognizing the brave acts of deserving children, thus instilling confidence and moulding them to become responsible & fearless individuals.”
Mr.Nana Chudasama, Jury member, Ghanshyam Binani Children’s Bravery award, congratulating the awardees said, “Ghanshyam Binani Children’s Bravery Award is an unparallel tribute to the brave children who have helped others get a new life by risking their own lives. This Award is to inculcate a spirit of courage and humanity among young citizens of the country, who are our future. We hope this Award will ignite a spark within all of us and inspire us to face challenges ahead. I would also like to appreciate the consistent efforts and hard work put by the Braj Binani Group to award these deserving children every year.”
A total of 21 Award nominations came from across the country of which 2 children were short-listed for the award. The selection process by jury members Mr. Nana Chudasama, Dr. Pasricha, Smt.Padma Binani, Mrs. Kalpana Binani and Mr.Chandra Mohan were stringent in nature. The process involved discussion, debate and finally Gaurav and Jahanavi were selected for this award. These young kids have shown commendable courage and presence of mind in times of need and have helped people. Since the inception of the Ghanshyam Binani Children’s Award, 18 children have received this award till date.
The Award consists of a thematically designed silver medal which is embedded with the symbol of a pyramid and a crystal. Pyramid and Crystal are considered as an epitome of energy. In fact, they absorb and emit energy and this medal acknowledges that force within. The awardees also get a citation and a cash reward of Rs. 51,000/ each. The silver medal has a neckband of three bold colours – orange, blue and green – representing fire, water and earth. Every year, a male and a female child are felicitated by this award.
Ghanshyam Binani Foundation, a Charitable Trust of Braj Binani Group, a non-profit charitable organization was set up in 1958 to help the needy and support a good cause.
